4C News: Week of September 17th

Constitution Day
September 17th, 2018

Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17th, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the U.S.



Picture Day: Picture Day is right around the corner! Your 4th grader will have their picture taken on September, 24.

Project Lit information meeting is Tuesday, September 18th at 4:45. The meeting will take place at Bellerive Elementary in the Library.

Reading: This week we are moving into the last part of bend 2 and starting bend 3 of our unit on interpreting characters. We will spend time forming theories about characters in order to defend our thinking. Bend three students will be devoted to the process of building interpretations They will see how their ideas about characters connect with insights about other elements of the story, such as the setting or objects that seem to be significant.

Writing: This week will be the end of our unit on writing realistic fiction stories. If students still need to put some finishing touches on their writing pieces before Thursday, they may work on it at home. I have planned various writing stations students will move through to closely look at and read their writing pieces.

Math: We will have our first math test on Tuesday, September 18. Students should be spending time last week and this week studying for this test. They all have been given a review guide for the type of problem they need to know how to do. On Wednesday, we will complete the unit reflection and set goals for the upcoming unit.

Science: This week we are moving on to lesson 6. This lesson focuses on how do natural Earth processes result in hazards that affect humans. Students will use interactive maps to show patterns of Earth processes such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, and floods.

Vocabulary: earthquake, volcano

Social Studies: The week we will finish lesson 2 on later Native Americans of Missouri. Last week we read this lesson and this will we will be diving deeper into analyzing the information in this lesson. This means we will compare and contrast the Osage and Sac and Fox tribes and identify the Missouri and Osage's community, their hunting and farming, family groups, and trading fur. This will be done in the student's social studies packet.
